Homemade toothpaste that will leave your mouth feeling fresh and clean without the harsh ingredients.
I found making my own toothpaste to be one of the easiest ways to move into a healthier more natural life. It is easy, quick and uses ingredients found in most of our cupboards.
In our home we made a pact that anytime a store bought (or chemically laden) product was used up in our home we would try to make our own. I was a little nervous when the toothpaste ran out first and had lots of questions and worries. Would my mouth feel clean? Would I have the satisfying minty breath? Would my teeth whiten? After doing lots of research on what to put in a homemade toothpaste I was ready to take the plunge.
Here is the recipe I settled on after many trials and many errors. This toothpaste checks all the boxes. My mouth feels even cleaner, My breath is minty but doesn’t burn and my teeth have stayed white. yes, stayed white after the many cups of daily coffee it takes me to stay charged!

Easy Natural Toothpaste
Difficulty: EasyHomemade toothpaste that will leave your mouth feeling fresh and clean without the harsh ingredients.
Ingredients
1/4 cup coconut oil**
1/4 cup baking soda
1 tsp powdered calcium carbonate**
10 drops peppermint essential oils
Directions
- warm coconut oil up slightly so that it is easier to mix, about 30 seconds in the microwave.
- Once coconut oil is warmed add baking soda and calcium carbonate (if using), mix well.
- Once mixture has come together add peppermint oil, mix and place into a clean jar.
- all that is left is to enjoy!
Notes
- You can use fractionated coconut oil instead of cold pressed. Fractionated coconut oil will give you a toothpaste like consistency. Cold pressed coconut oil will harden at room temperature but is still useable.
- The calcium carbonate used in this recipe is for a mild abrasive, it also can help teeth from becoming soft allowing cavities to form.
